A personal reflection
The Maldives,
through my eyes.
The colours I carry with me. The quiet I return to.
To me, the Maldives is the most beautiful country I have ever seen. There is something about these islands—the open sky, the changing sea and the quiet rhythm of the shore—that never loses its wonder.
A blue like nowhere else
What stays with me most is the colour. On a clear day, the sky has a blue that I have never seen quite the same way anywhere else. Beneath it, the sea changes from pale turquoise to deep blue. I feel I could watch it for hours without becoming bored.
When the horizon changes
Sunrise and sunset bring another kind of beauty. Across the open horizon, the colours deepen and soften, passing through gold, orange, pink and purple. When the sun seems to sink directly into the sea, I want to stop whatever I am doing and simply watch.
The quiet music of the shore
Then there is the sound of the waves. They break gently on the beach, retreat and return—a quiet music that asks nothing of you. To me, it is the finest lullaby, easing the mind and allowing the body to rest.
That is the Maldives I carry in my heart. Not only beautiful islands, but a feeling of peace: sea, sky and enough time to notice them.
