A good Maldives holiday is built from practical details: arrival time, transfer method, island shape, room position, meals and the kind of ocean access you actually want.
Confirm whether the island is reached by speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight plus boat. Ask about operating hours, luggage limits, waiting time and what happens if an international flight arrives too late for the final connection.
Look beyond the room rate. Transfers, taxes, drinks, speciality restaurants, excursions, equipment rental and festive supplements can change the true cost. Ask for a written list of inclusions.
Full board can suit travellers who drink little and spend modestly. All-inclusive plans vary widely: some include selected drinks and activities, while others exclude premium restaurants, minibar items and many excursions.
Beach villas provide direct sand access and shade; overwater villas provide open views and steps into the lagoon. Families, weak swimmers and light sleepers should ask about water depth, currents, privacy, boat noise and walking distance.
“House reef” does not guarantee easy access or abundant coral. Ask how far the reef edge is, where safe entry channels are, whether currents are common and if guided snorkelling is available.
A note on weather
The drier part of the year often brings clearer skies and stronger demand, while the wetter monsoon can bring wind, cloud, short heavy rain and excellent sunny periods. Conditions vary between atolls and from day to day. No responsible seller can guarantee perfect weather.
Travel insurance is worth considering for delays, medical needs and activities. Read the policy carefully, especially if diving or aerial water sports are part of your plans.

The listings on this site cover overnight accommodation, day visits and individual activities. Start with the job each one does in your itinerary. A day-island package cannot replace a hotel night, and a short activity does not solve the journey from your hotel to its departure point.

Do not treat a hotel’s airport transfer and an activity’s return boat as a continuous journey. Write down all four legs: airport to Gulhi, Gulhi to the activity meeting point, activity return point to Gulhi, and Gulhi to the airport. Ask who supplies each leg and whether it is shared or private. If nobody has confirmed a leg, the itinerary is incomplete even when both headline packages are available.
Sketch the arrival and departure days before filling the middle with excursions. Record your flight arrival, the confirmed boat departure, the property’s check-in time and your final return connection. An afternoon arrival and a morning departure can leave much less beach time than the number of nights suggests. Leave space for delays instead of planning a prepaid activity immediately after a connection.
Put the travellers’ names, dates, room category, number of beds, meals, both transfer directions, currency, final total and cancellation conditions in a single confirmation. Ask the seller to identify which items are merely requested and which are confirmed. Keep the seller’s booking reference; an email enquiry to Hassan is not that confirmation.
