A local-island escape

Slow mornings.
Wide-open sea.

Tropic Tree is on Gulhi in South Malé Atoll (Kaafu Atoll), not on a private resort island. It is a base for beach time, island walks and excursions into the surrounding ocean.

The hotel describes the journey from Velana International Airport as approximately 30 minutes by speedboat. Transfer schedules and journey times depend on arrangements and sea conditions—confirm them before booking flights.

Enjoy Gulhi’s designated Bikini Beach, and dress respectfully in the village and other public areas. For a gentler visit, follow our responsible travel guide.

Out on the water

Leave room
for adventure.

The hotel’s excursion programme offers options for couples, families and shared groups. Choose a few experiences—or leave your days unhurried.

Reef & sandbank

Two-point snorkelling, sandbank visits and combined snorkelling–sandbank trips. Couple and family options are listed by the hotel.

Half-day & full-day adventures

Combine reef stops, sandbank time and dolphin watching; full-day itineraries can also include a local island and shark snorkelling.

Marine encounters

Ask about the Nurse Shark/Stingray trip, Dolphin Experience, or Whale Shark & Manta Ray trip with a visit to Dhigurah.

Coral Garden & Vaavu Voyager

The Coral Garden trip features Embudu reef. Vaavu Voyager combines shipwreck snorkelling, nurse sharks and sandbank time.

Sunset fishing & island visits

Try sunset fishing or arrange transfers to Maafushi and Guraidhoo. Ask the team about local culture, surfing, diving and watersports.

A resort day out

Resort Explorer day visits are listed for Adaaran Prestige Vadoo and Embudu Maldives, subject to the resort’s availability and current inclusions.

The ocean sets the itinerary.

Trips depend on weather, minimum group numbers, operator availability and participants’ suitability. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Keep a respectful distance, never touch or chase marine animals, and ask about guides, equipment and safety briefings.

Confirm the current itinerary, total price and inclusions before reserving. Activities are not automatically included in a room booking.

Let’s plan your Gulhi stay

A few details.
A personal enquiry.

Tell Hassan your dates, number of guests, preferred room, meal plan and any activities you have in mind. We can ask Tropic Tree about availability and current offers on your behalf.

An enquiry is not a confirmed booking. Tropic Tree confirms the final price, taxes, transfers, payment and cancellation terms, and any offer before you commit. No discount is guaranteed.

Planning context · not a personal review

A Gulhi room is a base—not the whole itinerary.

The hotel supplied its English fact sheet for 2027, its activities list for 2026 and photographs. The documents cover different years; neither is a live availability check.

Match the documents to your dates

For a 2027 stay, ask for a 2027 excursion confirmation rather than assuming the 2026 activity list is unchanged. Request the room name, permitted occupancy, bed arrangement and meal plan together. A room-category name alone does not tell a family how many separate beds it will have.

Separate airport access from excursion travel

The approximate airport journey described above is not a promised pickup time. Ask whether the quote is for a shared departure or a private transfer, where you meet, and what happens if your flight is late. A Maafushi outing needs a separate Gulhi departure and return confirmation.

Choose a beach stay or a boat-heavy stay

If your priority is unhurried time on Gulhi, leave days without prepaid outings. If it is a specific marine excursion, establish its departure point, minimum group size and cancellation arrangements before choosing your hotel dates. Wildlife photographs do not guarantee the same encounter on your trip.
